East Wellington Fire Hall, Nanaimo
A modest design for a volunteer firehall for the East Wellington Improvement District. The facility is located at the entrance to Benson Meadows, an upscale rural estate neighborhood. The building incorporates economical wood framing and trusses, combined with elements of heavy timbers, steep roofs and stone accents common in the neighbourhood. Sitework includes low maintenance native vegetation, boulder retaining wall and a rainwater cistern created from a recycled gas station storage tank.
